How ProgressXL Scores Your Operations and Builds an Improvement Plan
ProgressXL is operational excellence assessment software that works in three moves: you complete a structured assessment and receive an honest, benchmarked score of where your operations stand; it generates a prioritised, tailored improvement plan from that score; and you work the plan at your own pace on any device, re-assessing to watch the score move. It is built to help businesses raise performance across efficiency, quality, delivery, people and growth, and to prepare for standards like AS9100 and ISO 9001. ProgressXL is coming soon. Here is how the Assess, Plan, Improve model works and who it is for.
Why I built it
I built ProgressXL because I kept seeing the same thing. There is a genuine gap in understanding performance at SME level. Not everywhere, plenty of great leaders are doing great things, but there is real frustration that knowledge is low in places and that consultancy and training are expensive. And too many consultants have never lived through the ups and downs themselves. They reach for tools before they have made a diagnosis, and they underrate culture, which in my experience is where most improvement is won or lost.
ProgressXL takes the Brigham approach, built over twenty-five years in manufacturing operations and improvement, and puts it into software you can run yourself. It gives you the honest diagnosis first, then the plan, at a fraction of the cost of bringing someone in, and without waiting for a consultant's diary to clear.
The problem it solves
Most owners know their operation could be better but struggle to say precisely where to start. Advice arrives as generic best practice or expensive bespoke consulting, and neither gives you a clear, honest baseline you can act on and re-measure. Improvement stalls not from lack of effort but from lack of a shared, evidence-based picture.
ProgressXL exists to close that gap. It gives you a structured way to see where you really stand, translates that into concrete priorities, and keeps the loop going so progress is visible rather than assumed. In short, it turns operational data into information you can act on.
Assess: an honest, benchmarked score
The starting point is a structured assessment that spans the whole operation, not just one department. You answer questions across the areas that drive performance: efficiency, quality, delivery, people and growth. The output is a benchmarked score that shows where you stand.
The word that matters here is honest. ProgressXL is designed to give you a truthful reading, not a flattering one, because a soft score produces a soft plan. Seeing a low score in an area you had assumed was fine is uncomfortable, but that discomfort is exactly what points you at the improvement that will pay off most. This is the diagnosis step that too much cheap advice skips.
Because the assessment is structured and repeatable, the score becomes a baseline. You can return to it later and measure whether change has actually landed, rather than relying on a vague sense that things feel better.
Plan: a prioritised, tailored roadmap
A score alone is a diagnosis. The value is in what comes next. From your assessment, ProgressXL generates a prioritised improvement plan tailored to your results, so you are not handed a generic checklist but a sequence built around your actual gaps.
Prioritisation is the point. A long list of everything you could improve is paralysing; a short, ranked set of what to tackle first is actionable. The plan focuses attention where impact is highest, so limited time and resources go to the changes that move the needle.
Because the plan is tied to your score, it also connects naturally to standards. If you are working toward AS9100 or ISO 9001, the assessment surfaces where you stand against the disciplines those standards expect, and the plan helps you close the gap deliberately rather than scrambling before an audit.
Improve: work the plan at your own pace
Improvement happens in the doing, and ProgressXL is built to fit around a real working business. You work the plan at your own pace, on any device, so progress does not depend on booking a consultant's diary or clearing a week to focus.
The loop closes when you re-assess. As you complete improvements and score again, you watch the number move, which does two things: it confirms whether the work actually helped, and it sustains momentum by making progress visible. Operational excellence is a direction of travel, and the re-assessment cycle keeps you moving along it.
- Assess to get an honest, benchmarked baseline.
- Plan to turn the score into prioritised, tailored actions.
- Improve at your own pace, then re-assess to see the score move.
Who it is for
ProgressXL is built for owners and operators of SMEs and the consultants who support them, particularly in manufacturing and advanced-manufacturing settings where quality, delivery and efficiency directly shape whether you win and keep work. It suits businesses that want a clear, self-serve way to raise performance without committing to a large consulting engagement from day one, and firms preparing for the disciplines that standards like AS9100 and ISO 9001 require.
It is equally useful as a shared reference point. When leadership, operations and quality all look at the same benchmarked score and the same prioritised plan, conversations about what to fix become grounded in evidence rather than opinion.
Frequently asked questions
Is ProgressXL available now?
ProgressXL is coming soon. You can learn about the Assess, Plan, Improve model and register your interest on the ProgressXL page ahead of launch.
Does ProgressXL replace certification?
No. ProgressXL helps you assess your operations and prepare for the disciplines that standards like AS9100 and ISO 9001 expect, but certification itself is awarded by an independent certification body assessing your live system. Think of ProgressXL as readiness and improvement, not the certificate.
Do I need to be an expert to use it?
No. The assessment is structured so that owners and operators can complete it themselves and get a clear, benchmarked score and a plan in plain terms. That was the whole point of building it: to put a proper diagnosis within reach of businesses for whom expensive consultancy has been out of reach. Consultants can also use it to give their clients an evidence-based starting point.
